Who We Are

Silicon Hills Associates, Inc. formed in 2004 by Senior Management with over fifty years experience in the design, installation and service of various electronic systems for commercial and government applications including integrated security, access control, point monitoring, IP video, closed circuit television (CCTV); intercom; fire alarm; clock systems; nurse call and sound.

Our core competencies include systems design, project management, installation, maintenance and service of these systems.  We work closely with end-users in identifying and understanding needs, developing plans and providing cost effective solutions tailored to meet immediate and longer-term goals. 

We also have considerable experience with and work well with Architects, Engineers, Consultants and Planners.  In addition, we have extensive experience in working with other construction and service trades, including General Contractors, Electrical Contractors, Door Hardware Suppliers, Elevator Contractors and authorities having jurisdiction (AHJ’s) or Fire Marshals and other Code Compliance Officers and Officials.

Our team of well qualified security technology professionals has vast experience in dealing with both new construction projects and retrofit of systems into existing sites and facilities.  Our extensive experience with a multitude of systems and systems architectures allow us to review existing infrastructure cabling, devices and components to identify that which is salvageable and may be incorporated into a new system for a cost savings to the Owner.

Senior Management

Mr. Michael Richard, President has over 25yrs experience in many facets of security integration from systems planning, design and sales to operations, project management, installation and service.  While always based in Central Texas, he has worked on many projects both large and small during his career, locally and across the United States.

Mr. Mitch Mckinzey, VP Technology holds certification of Physical Security Professional, PSP and has over 25yrs experience in the security industry.  He has worked extensively in the field, beginning as a Journeyman Electrician and leading to senior level positions in project management and estimating.  His broad experience also encompassed work as a Physical Security Manager for a large global computer manufacturer.

We have very successfully worked with many of Central Texas ’ major employers on some of the largest and most technically complex projects in the area to deliver systems that met or exceeded our clients’ long term security needs.  We have maintained long term relationships with these clients and have also provided long term service and repair.

Access Control for a World Leader in the Bio-Tech Industry

Silicon Hills completed phase 1 retrofit of a sizeable Central Texas facility with a new Access Control System connected with an Existing Remotely Located Enterprise System.  All new cabling and devices were installed to existing and new access controlled doors.  Maintaining uptime of the existing system during conversions was critical to the end-user which required very careful planning and coordination to ensure security at all times.  Downtime for any security door was limited to approximately 2-4 hours while card readers and devices were installed and re-terminated to the new control panels and power supplies.  The new system provides control of approximately 24 doors and is designed to allow future video integration on the Enterprise Platform.

Access Control for a growing Central Texas Independent School District

Silicon Hills successfully completed the installation of an access control system at a newly constructed elementary school for a growing Central Texas ISD.  Our work involved close coordination with the Owner, General Contractor and other trades to ensure on-time, in-budget completion of this new construction  project.  Silicon Hills worked closely with the ISD IT staff to configure software and update database as necessary for deployment of new control panels, card readers and devices with little or no impact on the existing card holder population allowing for seamless access to the new facility for authorized users.

Integrated Access Control and Cameras for a Private Elementary School

Silicon Hills successfully completed the installation of an Integrated Security System at a private elementary school.  The project consisted of an integrated security software platform including proximity card reader controlled doors, door management alarms and cameras providing general views and event based alarm/recording on a digital video recorder (DVR).    Cameras and lenses were selected based upon specific functional requirements including day/night requirements, desired views and video quality.  The system was cost effectively designed to accommodate near and longer-term expansion requirements and the integrated security software platform was selected based upon easily upgradable features and capacities which can be purchased/deployed as needed to meet future expansion.

Silicon Hills delivered an enterprise solution for retrofit of an existing security system.  The system was designed to provide high reliability and accommodate the Owner’s near and long-term needs.  Maintaining uptime during the retrofit was critical and Silicon Hills teamed with the Owner’s resources to deliver the project with minimal impact on the card holder population and security of facilities.

Access Control and CCTV for a Houston Based International Communications Provider

Silicon Hills Associates completed the installation of an access control system for card reader control of the customer’s headquarters.  IP cameras were located for view of various entrances.  In addition, we have provided custom access control locking arrangements, pre-configured, programmed and tested prior to kit deployment across the globe.  The project involved close coordination between Silicon Hills, the Access Control Manufacturer and various engineers as necessary to troubleshoot and establish data communications for this global deployment.

Integrated Security for a Managed Hosting Company

Silicon Hills Associates completed various security projects for this client during the past five years including system conversion from another security platform while utilizing certain existing communications infrastructure, devices, and other power and control equipment.  The resulting Integrated Solution is very well suited to accommodate their rapid growth and expansion across the United States and abroad.

Access Control for a Private College

Silicon Hills completed the installation of an access control system for a private Texas based Technology College .  The scope included security software loaded on Owner provided servers and PC’s and deployment of IP based control equipment over existing network.  The software platform chosen for this project is easily expandable through simple software upgrades to allow longer-term consolidation of remote facilities under one user interface.  Also, the base software can be easily upgraded to an integrated platform which could incorporate IP cameras to further enhance security at the existing facilities.

Integrated Security (Networked Video and Access Control) for a World Leader in Ecommerce

Silicon Hills completed an Austin expansion of their access control and integrated video system.  The project involved the retrofit of existing cabling, devices and equipment and the addition of new card readers and IP (networked based) cameras.  New networked controllers were installed and connected to a remotely managed Enterprise System.  The system conversion was very carefully scheduled and coordinated to ensure very minimal downtime of the security system.  Typically, downtime for any access controlled door was limited to approximately 2hrs or less while cabling was re-terminated to the new control equipment.
